Thing #18: YouTube & Online Video

I've watched quite a few things on YouTube: librarian videos, music videos (especially concert footage of lots of old & new rockers) and TV shows/clips. It's pretty amazing what's on there. It's also convenient for when you want to watch Superbowl commercials without having to watch the game. My favorite video is Laughing Baby. No matter how many times I watch it (and it's quite a few now), I have to smile.

Although a lot of the library/librarian videos are funny, there are some practical uses of video. You could film a tour of the building and mention something about each area of the library. Promoting a program is also a fun idea, such as this video:

Lily and the ACPL shows how people in the community, such as the mayor, can be involved in a video promoting the library. Why not get community people involved in promoting the library? Kind of a Jay Leno's "man on the street" montage.

The difficulty in creating a video is the time involved, the creativity needed and the willingness of the tech department to put it on the web site.
